Product Description

This smoky blend of Keemun, Formosa Lapsang Souchong and Oolong Poppy, evokes the spirit of the legendary 19th century tea caravans that travelled from China along the Silk Road through Russia.

Overview

Russian Caravan tea, a blend steeped in history and tradition, offers a rich, complex flavour profile inspired by its origins. Traditionally crafted from Oolong, Keemun, and Lapsang Souchong teas, this unique blend is celebrated for its signature smoky aroma, evoking the campfires that accompanied ancient trade caravans transporting tea from China to Russia.

A favorite among tea connoisseurs, this robust brew not only delights the palate but is also believed to offer health benefits such as immune system support, improved digestion, and heart health. With every sip, you can experience a taste of history and tradition.

What is Russian Caravan Tea?

Russian Caravan is a full-bodied black tea that traces its roots to the camel caravans of the 18th ad 19th centuries, which transported tea across the vast terrains from China to Russia. These journeys spanned thousands of miles, enduring harsh Siberian climates, to deliver tea to the Russian aristocracy.

The blend traditionally combines:

- Oolong for its subtle tang.
- Keemun for its malty sweetness.
- Lapsang Souchong, which imparts its distinct smoky aroma, reminiscent of the campfires that warmed travelers and their camels during the arduous trek.

The harmonious combination of these teas results in a dark, rich brew with layers of complexity and a lingering finish.

A Journey Through History

The story of Russian Caravan tea is as captivating as its flavour:

- 18th Century: Named after the camel caravans that transported tea over 6,000 miles in journeys lasting up to 16 months. The tea absorbed smoky aromas from nightly campfires, creating its distinctive taste.
- 19th Century: The advent of the Trans-Siberian Railway simplified transportation, reducing the tea's exposure to campfire smoke and leading to changes in its flavor profile.
- 20th Century: Popularity waned during the Soviet Era but resurged post-USSR with renewed global interest in traditional teas.

Today, Russian Caravan tea is cherished worldwide for its historical narrative, complex flavours, and timeless appeal.
